A man faces multiple charges of child abuse, including rape and strangulation, spanning over a decade in Armagh
Armagh: A man in his forties is facing some really serious charges. These include multiple counts of child abuse that allegedly happened over 14 years. The charges are pretty shocking, involving rape and choking with the intent to murder.
He appeared in court recently, where he was hit with ten charges in total. These include rape, strangulation, sexual assault, and child cruelty. It’s a heavy load to carry.
The alleged abuse started back in July 2010. It’s claimed that he tried to engage sexually with the child and even made her watch sexual activities. That’s just awful.
Things escalated from there, with the most serious charges coming after 2020, including allegations of rape. From then until July 2024, he’s accused of trying to choke or strangle the child on multiple occasions.
There are also claims of further sexual assault and applying pressure to her throat, which is just horrifying. A detective mentioned that all these charges seem to be connected.
During the brief court hearing, not much detail was shared about the alleged incidents. The accused only confirmed his identity and acknowledged the charges against him.
His defense lawyer told the court that he’s been on police bail since his arrest in July 2024 without any issues. But the judge, Natasha Fitzsimmons, took the charges very seriously.
She set bail at £500 and said he must stay at a police-approved address. Plus, he’s banned from contacting the complainant in any way and can’t be around anyone under 16 without supervision.
The case is set to continue on February 4, and the defense asked for him to be excused from attending. However, the judge made it clear that he needs to be there, saying, “This is a serious matter.”
