Shamsud-Din Jabbar, a Texas man, is linked to a deadly New Orleans attack that left 15 dead and many injured on New Year’s Day
New Orleans: A tragic incident unfolded when a man from Texas, Shamsud-Din Jabbar, drove his truck into a crowd, resulting in 15 fatalities.
This 42-year-old Army vet was shot by police after he crashed his Ford F-150 Lightning into revelers on Bourbon Street and opened fire.
The chaos erupted in the early hours of New Year’s Day, injuring 35 others in the process.
Police Superintendent Anne Kirkpatrick described the attack as pure evil, emphasizing that Jabbar was intent on causing harm.
Authorities are now digging into his motives, suspecting he might have been inspired by ISIS.
They even found homemade pipe bombs at the scene, raising concerns that he may not have acted alone.
President Biden mentioned evidence linking Jabbar to ISIS, including a flag found in his vehicle.
Jabbar was a US citizen from Texas, and the FBI confirmed he was the attacker.
He had a military background, serving in various roles and even being deployed to Afghanistan.
After his military service, he worked in real estate and had a stint at Deloitte.
Jabbar had been married twice and had two kids with his first wife. His second ex-wife had a restraining order against him in 2020.
At the time of the attack, he was living near Houston.
Investigators are also looking into a video where he reportedly discussed his divorce and violent thoughts.
His brother stated that Jabbar’s actions don’t reflect Islam but rather a form of radicalization.
At 3:15 AM on New Year’s Day, Jabbar drove his rented truck into crowds in the French Quarter.
He killed 15 people, many locals, and injured two police officers before being shot dead.
Authorities are treating this as a terrorist act.
