Witnesses captured the shocking moment heavyweight boxer Jon DP Shaw was attacked in Worcester
Worcester: So, there was this crazy incident where heavyweight boxer Jon DP Shaw got attacked. It all went down at an industrial estate on Sherriff Street. The footage is pretty intense, showing Jon being jumped by Daniel Smith and his brother, David.
Just a heads up, the videos might be a bit much for some folks. They’ve got strong language and some pretty distressing moments, so viewer discretion is advised.
Daniel, who’s 36 and from Warndon, and his brother were initially arrested for attempted murder after they stabbed Jon, who’s 34 and a dad. But in the end, Daniel got sentenced to 50 months for wounding with intent, while David got a community penalty for affray.
The video shows David grabbing Jon in a headlock while Daniel goes at him with a knife. But Jon, being a boxer, managed to fight back and took both of them down with some solid punches. You can hear people shouting his name and warning about the knife.
Jon ended up in Worcestershire Royal Hospital with a collapsed lung from the stab wound. Interestingly, he hasn’t worked with the police on the case but has spoken out against knife violence on social media.
He believes his boxing training helped him fend off the attackers and thinks self-defense training is super important these days. It’s wild to think that this all started over a Facebook post.
Daniel was sentenced on January 3, and the judge called him a dangerous offender. But he didn’t get an extended sentence, so his 50-month term will just add on to another sentence he’s already serving.
Jon even joked about the whole thing on Facebook, comparing his attackers to the Chuckle Brothers. He said, “Imagine doubling up on a man with knives and getting flattened.” It’s a crazy story that really highlights the need for self-defense skills in today’s world.
