A man is expected to face murder charges following the discovery of a woman’s body in a violent scene at a south-west Sydney unit, raising concerns about domestic violence.
Sydney: Police are gearing up to charge a man with murder after a woman’s body was found in a unit in Belmore. It was a pretty brutal scene, and the details are still coming in.
The woman, just 31 years old and a mother of five, was discovered dead on Wednesday morning. Emergency services had to break into the apartment after a family member raised concerns about her wellbeing.
They found her in a tragic state, and it seems she was killed earlier that day. Shortly after, police arrested a 35-year-old man in Campbelltown, who was already under an apprehended violence order.
Superintendent Sheridan Waldau mentioned that they expect to charge him with murder later today. He’s known to the police, but there hasn’t been much interaction with him before this incident.
Waldau emphasized that the police had done everything they could in previous matters involving him. The crime scene is being thoroughly investigated, and it’s clear this was a violent situation.
Interestingly, police had been to the woman’s home just a couple of days earlier after a minor incident involving the man and a local teacher, but nothing serious came of it.
NSW police commissioner Karen Webb expressed her concerns about domestic violence, saying it’s a real issue that keeps her awake at night. She urged anyone with information to come forward, highlighting the need for community support in tackling these problems.
