The popular Sinclair’s Bay Social Spaces initiative returns, offering warmth and connection to locals this winter.
This initiative started as a response to the cost-of-living crisis, providing warm spots for the community along with some refreshments. In 2024, it was rebranded to highlight its social benefits.
The project is run by the Sinclair’s Bay Trust. Maysie Calder, the chairperson, shared that the community has really embraced it in the past two years.
She mentioned that the feedback from locals helped shape the project into a cozy gathering place where people can enjoy a cup of tea, a bowl of soup, and some good company during the chilly winter months.
Last year, they served over 300 lunches and countless hot drinks from January to March. The 2025 schedule kicks off at Keiss village hall on January 15, followed by Staxigoe hall on January 16, and Reiss and Killimster hall on January 17. It’ll run for 10 weeks on those days.
Kerry O’Keefe, the community development officer, expressed excitement about welcoming everyone back for another year of Sinclair’s Bay Social Spaces.

Keiss is one of the communities benefiting from this initiative, which runs for 10 weeks.
