A 30-year-old was arrested in Essex for violent disorder linked to hare coursing, adding to previous arrests in Cambridgeshire.
Police started an investigation recently after receiving many complaints. People reported hare coursing, criminal damage, and dangerous driving throughout the county.
Incidents occurred in several places, including Fordham, Ely, and Prickwillow. Littleport, Welney, and Chatteris also had problems. Manea, Wimblington, and Doddington were affected too. Police still need help finding others involved.
Two men were arrested in Essex yesterday morning, aged 22 and 51. A 46-year-old man from Solihull was also arrested in Peterborough yesterday.
An 18-year-old man from Spalding and a 26-year-old man from Grantham were arrested on Friday morning.
Police seized four vehicles, finding three in Grantham and one in Essex. They also found hare coursing equipment.
The five men now have bail and must return to the police station later. They have strict rules to follow now.
They cannot have dogs on private land without the owner’s written permission and any dog must be on a leash. Furthermore, they are restricted from having dogs in vehicles outside a five-mile radius, with the exception of vet appointments.
They cannot possess catapults, ball bearings, or air weapons. They also can’t drive onto private fields owned by another without written permission.
They cannot use public spaces to course hares and must not intimidate anyone. This applies in twelve counties, including Cambridgeshire, Essex, Lincolnshire, and Nottinghamshire.
