A Hawaiian Airlines flight had to turn back to Seattle after smoke was reported in the cockpit shortly after takeoff
Seattle: A Hawaiian Airlines flight was on its way to Honolulu when things took a turn. Just after taking off, the crew noticed smoke in the cockpit. Yikes!
The Airbus A330 had 273 passengers and 10 crew members on board. It took off around 1 p.m. from Seattle-Tacoma International Airport, but the crew quickly reported the issue. Hawaiian Airlines spokesperson Marissa Villegas shared the news with the Associated Press.
In response, the FAA is looking into what happened on Flight 21. The captain declared an emergency to get priority landing, and they safely returned to Seattle without any drama.
When they landed, fire and medical teams were ready to meet the plane, just in case. Thankfully, everyone got off safely. Once the plane was cleared, the Port of Seattle Fire Department checked it out and found no smoke or smell.
Hawaiian Airlines sent out a new aircraft for Flight 21 the next morning. Villegas reassured everyone that safety is their top priority and apologized for the scare.
