Northern Ireland faces severe weather with snow and ice warnings affecting travel and a key football match
The weather’s really throwing a wrench in the works for the big Liverpool vs. Manchester United match today. They’re still deciding if it can go ahead, with the kickoff set for 4:30 PM at Anfield. Meanwhile, 28,000 homes in the Irish Republic are without power due to the heavy snowfall.
The forecast says we could see between 5 to 10 cm of snow in the Mournes, Sperrins, and Antrim Hills, with lighter dustings elsewhere. It’s been a rough start to the year, with heavy snow causing disruptions all over the UK.
In fact, places like Bingley and Shap have reported significant snowfall, and both Manchester and Liverpool airports had to close their runways this morning. They’re working hard to clear the snow, but it’s been a tough job with the conditions.
The Met Office warns that icy patches could be a real hazard, especially on untreated roads and paths. So, if you’re heading out, be careful! They’re advising everyone to take it slow and give themselves extra time to get where they need to go.
As we head into Monday, the icy conditions are expected to ease a bit with some sunshine breaking through. But don’t let your guard down just yet; temperatures are still going to be pretty low, so watch your step out there!
