Edinburgh: The SNP is looking for a new chief executive as they gear up for the 2026 election. They’ve posted the job on LinkedIn, searching for someone with “integrity and influence.” This comes after Murray Foote stepped down last year.
While the salary details are hush-hush, a previous ad mentioned it could be around £95,000 a year. The new leader will be crucial in shaping a modern, dynamic party ready to win elections.
For now, Carol Beattie, the former chief executive of Stirling Council, is filling in on an interim basis. Foote, who used to be the Daily Record editor, left in October, saying he couldn’t commit to the changes needed for the party.
Peter Murrell held the role for over two decades but resigned after facing backlash for misleading the public about party membership. He was later arrested for embezzlement linked to an investigation into the SNP’s finances.
Adding to the drama, Nicola Sturgeon recently announced her divorce from Murrell after nearly 15 years. The SNP is under pressure, especially after a poor showing in the General Election, which has strained their finances due to falling donations and membership.
They’re also on the lookout for a new head of finance, so it’s a busy time for the party as they prepare for the future.
