Stanford-le-Hope: Recently, a number of shoplifters in South Essex have been sentenced for their crimes. It’s been quite a busy time for the courts.

Take Jodie Powell, for instance. She was caught stealing items worth up to £500 from a Co-op. The court heard she had taken a lot more than that. She got two weeks in jail and has to pay £50 in compensation.

Then there’s Ricky Corp, who nabbed some pet food from Pets At Home. He stole £49.49 worth of goodies and ended up with a £120 fine and had to pay back what he took.

And let’s not forget Muhammad Akbar. He swiped £400 worth of clothes from Marks and Spencer and a suitcase from Primark. He got 12 weeks in jail for his trouble.

Geoffrey Keable also got in on the action, stealing a fancy bag and some items from Primark. He initially denied it but later changed his plea and got eight weeks in jail.

Another interesting case is Tariq Malik, who took some pricey Beats headphones. He got a suspended sentence, meaning he won’t go to jail right away, but he has to pay back what he stole.

Laura Pattle had a spree at Lakeside shopping centre, stealing clothes and other items. She’s been ordered to go through drug rehab as part of her sentence.

Martin Carter, who stole some chocolate bars, was also jailed for two weeks. He didn’t have to pay compensation since the items were recovered.

Jatiinder Sharma took over £200 worth of alcohol and was given 40 hours of unpaid work. He’s also got to attend some rehabilitation activities.

Matthew Cook stole some Jack Daniels and got a conditional discharge, meaning he has to stay out of trouble for six months.

Linas Jaraminas stole some t-shirts and ended up with a hefty fine and costs to pay. He was found guilty after denying the charges.

Lastly, Ashley Choat stole a bike and some handbags. He got a suspended sentence and has to pay back the value of the bike.
