A South Korean court has issued an arrest warrant for impeached President Yoon Suk-Yeol amid ongoing investigations into his actions.
Seoul: So, guess what? A South Korean court just approved an arrest warrant for President Yoon Suk-Yeol. This guy’s been impeached and is already out of power because of that martial law he tried to impose back in December.
The Corruption Investigation Office for High-ranking Officials confirmed that the Seoul Western District Court gave the green light for this warrant. It’s a big deal since it’s the first time an arrest warrant has been issued for a sitting president in South Korea.
Now, the court hasn’t said why they decided to go ahead with this, and the CIO is keeping quiet too. It’s still a mystery when or how they’ll actually carry out the arrest. The presidential security service mentioned they’ll handle it according to due process, whatever that means.
On top of that, they also approved a search warrant for Yoon’s home. Can you believe it? Police have tried to raid the presidential office before but got blocked by security. It’s a bit of a mess.
Yoon’s in hot water over possible insurrection charges, which is one of the few things that can actually get a South Korean president in trouble. The acting leader of the ruling party even said trying to detain a sitting president is just not right. What a situation!
