Seoul: Today, investigators showed up at Yoon Suk Yeol’s home to arrest him. But things got tense when they ran into his security team. This all stems from his brief martial law declaration back in December.

A big team of 120 police and 30 officials from the Corruption Investigation Office tried to get into the presidential palace around 7 AM local time. They had a warrant in hand.

Yoon is making history as the first sitting South Korean president to face arrest. The CIO got a court to approve the warrant after looking into whether his martial law move was actually insurrection.

But the arrest team hit a snag. They were blocked by vehicles at the entrance, and even when some officers got through, they faced a wall of security personnel and military troops.

Yoon’s lawyer claimed the arrest warrant is invalid and said they plan to fight it legally, though they didn’t go into details.

This warrant is good until January 6. It comes after Yoon ignored several requests to answer questions about the insurrection and abuse of power charges, which his lawyers argue are “unlawful.”

Stay tuned for more updates on this unfolding political crisis in South Korea as the situation develops.
