Southend High Street’s bollards are now permanently raised for enhanced security following recent vehicle attacks
Southend: So, they’ve finally decided to keep those bollards up on the High Street all the time. They were only raised during big events before, but now it’s a permanent thing. Pretty smart move, right?
These bollards were put in place back in 2021 to help keep the area safe. But with all the crazy stuff happening lately, like that awful car attack in Germany and the shooting in New Orleans, it makes sense to step up security.
Now, if a vehicle needs to get through, they have to call the council’s CCTV control room for access. It’s all about keeping folks safe while they shop or just hang out in the city.
Martin Terry, a council member, mentioned how important public safety is. He said they’ve got a new protocol in place to manage the bollards, and it’s all about being vigilant. It’s a bit of a wake-up call for everyone.
And let’s not forget the tragic loss of MP David Amess back in 2021. That incident really shook the community. So, it’s good to see that they’re taking these measures seriously now.
Another councillor, Stephen Aylen, also thinks this is a great move. He’s been hearing from residents who want more safety measures. It’s nice to see the council listening and acting on it.
Overall, it feels like a step in the right direction for Southend. Everyone deserves to feel safe while they’re out and about.
