A man was arrested after police recognized him from footage of the Southport riots where he was hit in the groin with a brick
Southport: So, there was this guy, Brian Spencer, who got himself into a bit of a pickle during the riots. He was caught on camera dancing around and taunting the police while all sorts of chaos was happening.
Apparently, he had a few too many drinks—ten pints and a litre of rum, if you can believe it! A judge even joked about his dance moves being like a “best Mick Jagger impression.”
Things took a turn when he got hit in the head and then, bam, a brick right in the groin! Ouch! He went down hard, and it was all caught on video.
But that wasn’t all. He was also seen throwing wheelie bins at police cars and just generally causing a ruckus. Later that night, he ended up at the hospital for his head injury, and guess what? The police recognized him from the viral footage and arrested him.
Fast forward to Monday, and he was in court. The judge wasn’t having any of it and sentenced him to two years and six months for his violent antics. He even got in trouble for being rude to a Polish-speaking patient while getting treated for his injuries.
The judge said he was right at the front of the mob, enjoying the chaos he was creating. It’s wild to think he was acting like a “general” during all that madness outside a mosque, right after a vigil for victims of a tragic knife attack.
Local folks had mixed feelings about him. Some said he was just a party animal who got a bit too excited. But the police are serious about this. They’ve arrested over 160 people related to the riots, and they’re not stopping anytime soon.
It’s a tough situation, especially with the violence that erupted after those tragic events. Just goes to show how quickly things can spiral out of control.
