Sheffield: A man named Dwayne Kaid, 44, sent a creepy Christmas card to his ex-girlfriend right after getting out of prison for stalking her. Can you believe that?
The card, which he sent on December 24, 2023, said, “Merry Christmas to you all,” and even had a sad emoji. He called himself “D” in the message. Talk about unsettling!
Kaid had been in trouble before. He was convicted of stalking her with fear of violence just a couple of months earlier and got an eight-month prison sentence. Plus, he was slapped with a three-year restraining order to keep him away from her.
In court, the prosecutor explained that they had a rocky relationship from 2015, but things got serious again in September 2021 until January 2023. After that, she had to move because she was scared of him.
On Christmas Day, she received that e-card, and it really freaked her out. The police traced the email back to Kaid, who lives on Norfolk Park Road in Sheffield.
In court, the woman said the card made her super anxious. She was worried he’d find her new address and hurt her. That’s just awful!
Kaid denied sending the card, claiming she was lying. But he did admit to breaching the restraining order, saying he didn’t mean to scare her. He thought he was just being friendly. Seriously?
His lawyer tried to downplay the situation, saying it was just a one-time mistake. But the judge wasn’t buying it. He said Kaid’s actions showed he couldn’t let go of the past.
In the end, the judge gave him a two-year community order, which includes 50 days of rehabilitation and 150 hours of unpaid work. Plus, the restraining order was extended to ten years. Good call!
