Stanford-le-Hope: So, there’s this pub called the New Courthouse that’s in a bit of hot water. Residents have been complaining about the noise, and it’s gotten serious enough that the council is stepping in.

Thurrock Council is set to review the pub’s licence after hearing from locals, the police, and even the environmental protection team. They’ve already slapped a noise abatement notice on the place, but it seems like that didn’t do the trick.

In fact, the brewery that owns the pub, Stonegate Group, had to close it down last November after complaints kept rolling in. Now, the council has a few options on the table. They could change the conditions, suspend the licence, or just take it away completely.

One resident from Victoria Road really let loose about the noise. They said this past summer was the worst, with music and sports blaring from the pub’s garden. It got so loud that they felt trapped in their own home, even with the windows shut.

They mentioned having to close everything up just to escape the racket, especially during big events like football and rugby matches. It sounds like they had to leave their home just to find some peace and quiet!

Essex Police are backing the review, citing concerns about crime and disorder linked to the pub. There’s even been a petition with 280 signatures asking for the pub to reopen, but environmental health officials are still worried.

They’re not too confident that the Stonegate Group will actually help keep the noise down if a new manager comes in. The council committee is set to meet on January 14 to discuss what happens next.
