Thurrock Council is set to review the New Courthouse pub after multiple complaints from locals and police about noise and disturbances
Stanford-le-Hope: So, there’s some drama brewing over at the New Courthouse pub. Thurrock Council is stepping in after residents, police, and the environment team raised a ruckus about noise issues.
They even slapped a noise abatement notice on the place. But after more complaints, the Stonegate Group, which runs the pub, decided to kick out the licensee and shut it down last November.
Now, the council is gearing up for a review. They’ve got a few options on the table, like tweaking the conditions, putting the license on hold, or even yanking it completely.
One resident from Victoria Road had a lot to say. They mentioned that summer was particularly rough, with noise levels that made it hard to enjoy their own home. They were fed up with the loud music and sports broadcasts coming from the pub’s garden.
It sounds like they had to keep their doors and windows shut just to find some peace. They even had to escape to friends’ houses to get away from the noise during events that went on from 2 PM to 11 PM!
Essex Police are backing the review too, citing concerns about crime and disorder linked to the pub. A petition with 280 signatures was gathered to push for the pub’s reopening, but environmental health officials are still worried.
They’re not too confident that the Stonegate Group will help keep the noise down when a new supervisor takes over. The committee is set to meet on Tuesday to discuss what happens next.
