Stuart Hogg has been sentenced for five years of domestic abuse against his estranged wife, Gillian Hogg, in a recent court ruling
Exeter: Former rugby star Stuart Hogg has been sentenced for abusing his estranged wife over five years. He admitted to the charges in court recently.
Hogg, who used to play for the Exeter Chiefs, was found guilty of some pretty alarming behavior. He tracked his wife’s movements and sent her distressing messages. The court heard he would shout and swear at her, which is just unacceptable.
During the sentencing, the sheriff gave him a community payback order and a year of supervision. Plus, he’s not allowed to contact Gillian for five years. That’s a serious consequence for his actions.
It’s been a rough time for Gillian. She noticed a change in Hogg’s behavior after they moved to Exeter in 2019. He started partying a lot and would get angry when she didn’t join in. Friends even noticed something was off with her.
Things escalated when she went out one night and was bombarded with texts from him. It got so bad that it caught the attention of her friends. Hogg even used an app to track her movements, which is just creepy.
In 2023, after seeking help from a domestic abuse service, Gillian decided to leave him. Hogg’s messages became overwhelming, leading her to panic attacks. It’s heartbreaking to hear how much she suffered.
Police had to step in when Hogg was found shouting and swearing, leading to his arrest. He’s now retired from rugby but had a successful career, even earning an MBE for his contributions to the sport.
It’s a sad situation all around, and it’s a reminder of how important it is to speak out against domestic abuse.
