The closure of St Giles Centre poses challenges for Subway’s Elgin branch, making its future uncertain
Elgin: The Subway in Elgin is facing a tough time. With the St Giles Centre shutting down soon, things are looking pretty grim for the franchise.
The centre is set to close on January 20, and that’s putting a lot of pressure on local businesses. Liam Dalgarno, who runs the Elgin Subway, says it’s going to be “very difficult” to stay in town.
He recently spent a hefty £100,000 on remodeling the store, so losing that investment and trying to find a new spot is a real headache. He mentioned that the notice to vacate isn’t giving them enough time to sort everything out.
It’s a tough situation, and they might have to leave their equipment behind if they can’t get access after the closure date. Liam hasn’t completely ruled out opening a new location, but it could take a while.
On top of that, he’s working hard to find new jobs for his seven staff members. So far, one team member is set to move to the Nairn store, but he’s hoping to help the rest find new opportunities too.
