New York: The Supreme Court just decided not to step in and stop Donald Trump’s sentencing over that hush money case. So, he’s out of options now and has to face the music in court.

Trump’s set to meet with Justice Juan Merchan at 9 a.m. on Friday, which is just ten days before he’s supposed to be inaugurated again. Talk about timing!

His lawyers were pushing for the Supreme Court to get involved, claiming it would prevent a serious injustice to the presidency and the federal government. They really thought they had a shot.

Trump argued that a past Supreme Court ruling on presidential immunity should protect him from this trial. He believes it should keep him safe from any criminal charges while he’s president-elect.

But the prosecutors, led by Manhattan DA Alvin Bragg, shot back, saying Trump’s claims don’t hold water. They pointed out that his arguments have delayed the case long enough already.

They also noted that Trump’s claim of future immunity doesn’t mean he’s immune now, especially since he’s not even in office yet. It’s a pretty bold move on his part.

Justice Merchan and the prosecutors made it clear that Trump’s actions—like falsifying records to cover up payments to an adult film star—aren’t part of his presidential duties, so they don’t get that immunity treatment.

They emphasized that this immunity only applies while someone is actually serving as president. It’s not a free pass before taking office.

Back in May, a jury found Trump guilty on 34 counts of falsifying business records after a lengthy trial. The whole thing revolves around his efforts to keep Stormy Daniels quiet during the 2016 campaign.

He had his former lawyer, Michael Cohen, pay her off, but then he recorded those payments as “legal expenses.” Classic Trump, right?

Despite all this, Trump insists he hasn’t done anything wrong. It’s going to be interesting to see how this all plays out.
