A suspect is in custody following two separate stabbings at Grand Central subway station on Christmas Eve, leaving victims hospitalized.
New York City: On Christmas Eve, two people were stabbed at the Grand Central subway station. It was a chaotic scene, and both victims were rushed to the hospital. Thankfully, they’re in stable condition now.
The first attack happened around 10:15 p.m. A 42-year-old man got into an argument and ended up with a knife wound to his wrist. The suspect took off but then got into it with a 26-year-old woman, stabbing her in the neck near the turnstiles.
Witnesses saw what happened and called the police. The suspect tried to escape up an escalator but was caught right there. They found a knife at the scene, but no charges have been filed yet.
It was a pretty gruesome sight, with blood on the floor as police secured the area. The NYPD confirmed that a person of interest is in custody, and they’re still investigating.
This isn’t the first scary incident on the subway lately. Just days before, a woman was set on fire while she slept on a train. That case has left many feeling uneasy about subway safety.
Despite these incidents, overall crime in the transit system is reportedly down this year compared to last. However, murders have increased, which is concerning for many New Yorkers.
