A man is accused of planning a mustard gas attack, raising concerns about local safety and terrorism.
Howden: A suspected Isis terrorist is in hot water for allegedly plotting a mustard gas attack. Jordan Richardson, from East Yorkshire, faced the music at Westminster magistrates’ court.
He got nabbed on December 19 after posting some pretty alarming stuff on Instagram, showing his support for Isis. When the cops caught him, they found a document that looked like a plan for an attack, mentioning weapons and harming bystanders.
To make things worse, he had a handwritten recipe for sulphur mustard, which is a nasty toxic agent. The prosecution said experts checked it out and confirmed it could be used in a grenade.
They also mentioned that his online searches suggested he had recently converted to Islam. When they searched his home, they found a crossbow and a knife, which raised even more red flags.
It seems he had been looking into potential targets, including a shopping center, and had expressed a desire to harm certain groups. The judge decided to keep him in custody until his next court date on January 17.
Det Chief Supt James Dunkerley, who leads Counter Terrorism Policing in the North East, said this situation is understandably worrying for the community, especially with recent events in Germany. He emphasized that public safety is their top priority and that they’re taking this case very seriously.
He also reminded everyone that the UK threat level is still substantial, and we all need to stay vigilant to help keep our communities safe.
