A gunman dressed in military gear killed ten at a Sweden school. He changed in a toilet before the rampage.
Sweden School Shooter Killed 10 in Military Gear
Before shooting, Andersson changed clothes. He put on military gear in the school’s toilet. He then walked school hallways, shooting people. Oddly, he spared some people and walked past them without shooting.
Andersson’s family described him to the media. They said he was a recluse and a loser. He was unemployed and isolated from others. He always covered his face and hands. People called him names in school too.
In 2017, he legally changed his name. His family was quite shocked by this change. He grew up with family in Orebro. He moved to Storgatan after school. Relatives said they lost contact with him.
As a child, he was different but lively. He did well when he was in school. Later he had a harder time and did not work. A family member said he was a loner and he didn’t seem to like engaging with people.
Andersson avoided family during Christmas, and the stated reason was poor mental health. The Swedish military repeatedly denied him service. He lacked required school qualifications so he was not called.
The shooting happened at Campus Risbergska School, in Orebro, west of Stockholm. The time that the alarm sounded was 12:30 p.m. Sadly, at least eleven people died. Police think that the gunman was one.
Police believe that after the shooting, he killed himself. Six people went to a nearby hospital. Four were women, and the other two were men. Five needed surgery immediately to survive. Two are still in serious condition.
Police said more casualties are possible still. Sweden’s Prime Minister called it a “painful day.” He said it was the country’s worst shooting, noting that the shooter had three rifles at the scene nearby.
