Scotland’s First Minister expresses disappointment over Hogg’s abuse case and discusses calls for his MBE to be revoked
Selkirk: So, former Scotland rugby captain Stuart Hogg has been in the news for all the wrong reasons. He admitted to abusing his ex-wife, Gillian, over five years. It’s pretty shocking, right?
Scotland’s First Minister, John Swinney, didn’t hold back. He called the whole situation “incredibly disappointing.” He even said it’s reasonable for people to want Hogg’s MBE taken away. That’s a big deal!
Hogg got a community payback order and a year of supervision after pleading guilty. The court heard he was pretty controlling, tracking her movements and sending her distressing messages. Just awful stuff.
When asked how he felt about Hogg, Swinney said it was disappointing to see someone once seen as a hero fall so far. He emphasized that men need to do better and set a good example.
While he didn’t comment on whether the sentence was too lenient, he acknowledged the concerns. It’s a tough spot for him, but he’s right to focus on the bigger picture of domestic abuse.
