Belfast: So, the roadworks on the Sydenham Bypass are kicking off again. The Department of Infrastructure had paused some work over the holidays, but now they’re back at it.

They’re trying to keep things smooth by working mostly at night and on weekends. The goal is to cut down on the hassle for drivers.

These resurfacing works started back in October and were part of a big £3.8 million project. But, with all the holiday traffic, they had to hit the brakes for a bit.

Now, the Belfast-bound lane will be closed from Tillysburn to the M3 during the week, from 10 PM to 6 AM, Monday through Thursday.

Plus, there will be some weekend closures too, starting from January 10. They’ll close at 10 PM Friday and reopen at 6 AM Monday.

Of course, all this depends on the weather, and the DfI is aware of how much the initial work affected traffic. They’ve got plans in place to manage it.

Drivers are advised to plan ahead, allow extra time, and check TrafficwatchNI for updates.

And it’s not just the Sydenham Bypass; other roadworks across Northern Ireland are also getting back into gear.

For instance, the A2 Shore Road in Strangford is undergoing resurfacing until March 14, with daily closures from 8 AM to 5 PM.

On Malone Road, there’s a lane closure at College Gardens for ongoing work.

The A24 Saintfield Road and Knockbracken Road junction work is still going strong, expected to last about 60 weeks.

Traffic on the Saintfield Road will be down to one lane, and the Knockbracken Road will be closed for five months.

There’s also work happening on the A20 Upper Newtownards Road, which started in August and will continue until April 2025.

And don’t forget about the A5 Tullyvar Road and Caledon Road in County Tyrone, which will see closures for maintenance and resurfacing.
