A Sydney teenager is under investigation for allegedly creating deepfake porn of classmates using AI technology
Sydney: A teenage boy from a high school in south-western Sydney is in hot water. He’s been reported to the police for allegedly using AI to make explicit images of his classmates.
It’s said that he created deepfake porn featuring female students and shared it through fake social media accounts. That’s just messed up!
NSW police got involved on January 6 after they heard about these inappropriate images being made and spread online. They’re taking this seriously and are working with the eSafety Commissioner and the Department of Education.
A spokesperson from the education department mentioned they’re cooperating with the police to help with the investigation. They made it clear that this kind of behavior won’t be tolerated.
They’re focused on making sure students feel safe and will decide what happens to the boy based on that. They’re also providing support to the students affected.
The NSW education minister, Prue Car, called the situation “abhorrent” and said it won’t be tolerated. She emphasized that the police will handle any criminal aspects, but there will definitely be disciplinary action for the student.
She praised the school’s leadership for acting quickly and stressed that the well-being of the affected students is the top priority. They want to ensure everyone feels okay to return to school.
To protect the privacy of those involved, neither the student nor the school has been named publicly. It’s a tough situation, and everyone’s hoping for a resolution soon.
