Devon: It was a tough day for drivers caught in a snowstorm on the A380. Many were left feeling anxious and upset as they sat in their cars for hours.

The road was shut down for a good part of the afternoon, and folks were stuck between Kingsteignton and Splatford Split. It was a real mess, and people were understandably frustrated.

One driver, Will, shared that he was trapped for three hours while trying to get to Exeter from Brixham. He said the snow hit hard around 2:30 PM, and they didn’t get moving again until about 5:30 PM.

He had to reroute to the A38 from a nearby gas station, where he joined a long line of cars. Once he got past Splatford Split, things cleared up a bit.

Another driver sent in a video showing the chaos on Haldon Hill, where they were stuck for hours. They were worried they might have to sleep in their car!

People were sharing their experiences in a Facebook group, with one saying Haldon Hill was “absolutely rubbish.” It was a real winter wonderland up there, but not in a good way.

By 8 PM, National Highways announced that the southbound closure on the A380 was lifted, but delays were still expected as traffic tried to get back to normal.

They had multiple gritters and plows working hard to clear the roads, but it was still tricky out there. Devon County Council noted that areas like Telegraph Hill were at a standstill during rush hour.

Earlier in the day, they had to close access to the A380 due to heavy snowfall, and traffic was crawling along the A38 with long delays.

Photos from the scene showed just how much snow had fallen, and the Met Office had issued weather warnings for the area. Some schools even announced closures for the next day.

Councillor Stuart Hughes from Devon County Council said they were doing everything they could to keep the roads clear. He warned that untreated routes could be dangerous and advised everyone to take extra care if they had to travel.
