Ilkeston: A 17-year-old boy has been charged with the murder of Noah Smedley, who was tragically stabbed to death shortly after Christmas.

The incident happened on December 28, and the young man appeared in court for the first time. He can’t be named because he’s a minor.

Police were called to Heanor Road around 8:20 PM after reports that Noah had collapsed. Sadly, he was pronounced dead just before 9 PM.

In court, the boy wore a grey prison tracksuit and only spoke to confirm his name. He seemed a bit nervous, biting his nails during the brief hearing.

The judge set a trial date for July 28, which will last two weeks. The boy hasn’t entered any pleas yet.

His lawyers decided not to apply for bail, so he’ll stay in custody until the next hearing on March 21.

Before being taken back to the cells, he smiled and nodded at someone in the gallery, which was a bit surprising given the circumstances.

Interestingly, seven others were arrested in connection with Noah’s death, including five teenage boys, a girl, and a 52-year-old man, but none have been charged yet.
