Yorkshire: It’s such a tragic situation. Two teenagers lost their lives in a car crash on New Year’s Day, and it’s just heartbreaking.

William Herbert, just 16, from Howden, and 18-year-old Olly Mitchell from Ellerton were involved in this awful accident in Preston. The police are helping their families through this tough time.

The crash happened around 1:20 PM when a grey Volkswagen Golf collided with a black Vauxhall Grandland. Sadly, William was pronounced dead at the scene.

Olly later passed away in the hospital due to his injuries. There were also two other passengers who got hurt. A 16-year-old girl is in critical but stable condition, and a 17-year-old boy is serious but stable.

In the Vauxhall, a 62-year-old man was taken to the hospital but his injuries aren’t life-threatening anymore. The driver, a 34-year-old woman, hurt her arm, and two other passengers had minor injuries.

The 17-year-old driver of the Volkswagen was arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving. It’s just a lot for everyone involved.

The police have shared the names of the boys and are asking for privacy for their families during this incredibly difficult time.

If anyone has information or footage that could help, they should reach out to the police.

It’s just so sad to see young lives cut short like this.
