Hartley Wintney: The Cricketers, a beloved pub on The Cricket Green, held its last event on December 31. It was a heartfelt farewell for landlady Denise Murtezaj, who has been a cornerstone of the community.

They threw a family-style party, inviting everyone for one last get-together. It was a nice way to celebrate the memories made there.

Denise’s retirement marks a significant change for this historic pub. The Cricketers has been a gathering place for locals and visitors for years.

Denise and her late husband, Bekim, ran the pub together for a long time. After Bekim passed away in 2020, Denise kept the spirit alive, making it a popular spot in town.

Even though they didn’t post an official closure announcement, their last social media update invited everyone to the farewell party, which was a nice touch.

Now, Greene King, the brewery that owns the pub, will take over. The community is hopeful that a new manager will step in soon to keep The Cricketers alive.

Greene King has been reached out to for comments about what’s next for the pub.
