Joan also reflected on her journey, saying she once wanted to leave for the hustle of Birmingham but returned to raise her family. Now, she feels it’s a great place to be.
Her husband, Tony, added that Aldridge has a good mix of families and older residents, along with decent schools and a bit of history. However, they wish for more shopping options.
Exciting news is on the horizon with the train station set to reopen in 2027 after being closed for 57 years. Property prices in Aldridge average around £292,866, slightly above the UK average.
Some homes have even sold for nearly £500,000! Rightmove noted that most properties sold were semi-detached, averaging £294,642, while flats went for about £137,695.
Interestingly, many locals might not know the story behind Aldridge’s name. Historians say it comes from Old English, meaning “the village among the alder trees.”
In the Domesday Book, it was recorded as Alrewic, with just seven homes back then, a far cry from the nearly 27,000 residents today.
