A thief stole a valuable bronze sculpture from artist Anne Curry’s home, leaving her devastated and the police investigating the incident.
Saffron Walden: So, get this. A thief swiped a massive bronze sculpture worth £60,000 right from the garden of artist Anne Curry. Can you believe it?
The piece, called “La Promesse,” was taken from her home overnight between December 5 and 6. It’s not just any sculpture; it’s signed by Curry and has a manufacturing value of about £20,000. The police are on the case but haven’t made any arrests yet.
Anne’s work is pretty famous, having been showcased in exhibitions worldwide. She’s even made busts of big names like former Prime Minister John Major. But now, she’s dealing with this awful theft.
She shared how upset she is about losing the sculpture. Anne, who’s 82, told the news that the thief had been in her garden, tapping on her sculptures to figure out which one was bronze. It’s just wild!
She was away for a funeral and came back to find her beloved sculpture missing. It’s clear the thief had scoped out the place before since she has around 15 to 20 sculptures in her garden, most of which are safer resin pieces.
Anne mentioned that this whole thing has shaken her sense of security. Living in a village, you don’t expect this kind of threat. It’s really upsetting for her.
She called “La Promesse” one of her best works and said she’s really attached to it. It’s been almost a month since it disappeared, and Essex Police are determined to find it. They’re asking anyone with info about suspicious activity in the area to step forward.
