Birmingham’s New Year celebration turned into disappointment as fake news spread about a fireworks display that never happened
Social media posts had everyone buzzing about the city’s first official fireworks display in ten years. People were excited, but it turned out to be just fake news.
When the clock struck twelve, the only sound was a single firework from the crowd, not the grand show they expected. West Midlands Police had to step in and break the news to the crowd, but many decided to stick around and enjoy the community vibe anyway.
Birmingham Superintendent Emlyn Richards had to clarify that there was no planned event this year. He urged folks not to travel into the city just to be let down.
Meanwhile, London was lighting up with what’s said to be Europe’s biggest fireworks display. The River Thames and the London Eye were aglow with colors, while music and Big Ben’s chimes filled the air.
In other parts of the UK, celebrations were mixed. Manchester saw huge crowds despite the rain, while Edinburgh had to cancel its Hogmanay event due to terrible weather.
The Met Office warned of more disruptive weather ahead, with rain and snow expected across the UK. So, it looks like the New Year started off with a bang for some and a fizzle for others!
