Birmingham: A huge crowd showed up for what they thought would be an amazing fireworks display on New Year’s Eve. But guess what? It was all a scam.

People gathered at Centenary Square, excited for the show. They were ready to film the fireworks that never happened. West Midlands Police were on the scene, but they had already warned folks earlier in the day that there was no event planned.

The police even posted on Facebook to let everyone know. They didn’t want people to travel into the city only to be let down. Superintendent Emlyn Richards made it clear that there was no fireworks display this year.

Despite the warning, many still showed up, hoping for a spectacular show. The police were there to keep things safe and ensure other celebrations around the city went smoothly.

It’s a shame that some people got tricked, especially when there were so many other events happening. Meanwhile, across the country, others faced travel chaos and bad weather as they welcomed the new year.

In other parts of the world, places like Kiritimati and Auckland were the first to ring in 2025 with their own fireworks displays. But in Birmingham, it was just a big letdown for those who believed the hype.
