A Thurso woman received a hefty fine after being caught driving with a breath-alcohol level over four times the legal limit
She took a breath test and blew a staggering 94 micrograms of alcohol, which is over four times the legal limit of 22 micrograms.
At Wick Sheriff Court, it came out that Monica had just gone to town for cigarettes. The fiscal depute called it a “slightly unusual” situation.
Sheriff Neil Wilson considered her circumstances, noting she was unemployed with a young family and a first-time offender. He decided to limit her driving ban to just a year.
However, he felt the fine had to be “relatively substantial” due to her high breath-alcohol level, so he slapped her with a £300 fine. Monica pleaded guilty to the offence, which happened on December 7 of last year.
