Two high-ranking Russian officers were reportedly killed in a Ukrainian missile attack on a command post in Kursk, raising tensions in the region.
Kursk: So, it looks like two of Putin’s top colonels have been taken out in a missile strike by Ukraine. Can you believe it? The whole thing went down in a bunker, and it was a Storm Shadow missile that did the job.
Reports say that Lieutenant Colonel Valery Tereshchenko and Colonel Pavel Maletsky were both in there when it happened. They were hiding out, but it didn’t help them much. The strike happened on December 30, but we’re just hearing about the casualties now.
It’s wild because the Russian army hasn’t officially confirmed their deaths yet. But the Russian Officers’ Ice Hockey League even mentioned Tereshchenko’s death, saying they were heartbroken about it. He had been involved in the invasion since October 2022, and today was his funeral.
Maletsky’s death was also confirmed by a friend, so it’s pretty much a done deal. This all comes as Ukraine seems to be ramping up its offensive in the Kursk region, where Russia has sent in North Korean fighters to try and reclaim some territory.
Ukrainian troops are on the move, trying to grab more land while the ground is frozen, which makes it easier for heavy equipment to roll in. Reports say they’re really pushing forward.
And if that wasn’t enough, Ukrainian military intelligence also claimed they took out another Russian officer, Sergey Melnikov, in a drone strike. It’s just one blow after another for Putin’s forces.
On top of that, Russia lost an Mi-28 helicopter in a crash, which is the fifth military helicopter they’ve lost recently. It’s been a rough week for them, to say the least.
Meanwhile, Russia launched a drone attack on Ukraine, but they lost a bunch of drones in the process. It’s a chaotic situation over there, and it doesn’t seem to be getting any better.
