Leeds residents voice their transport issues, focusing on traffic and parking challenges in a recent public consultation
Leeds: The results from a public consultation in Armley, Bramley & Stanningley, and Kirkstall wards are out. Residents shared their thoughts on local transport issues, and it seems traffic and parking are the big concerns.
The ‘Streets for All’ consultation took place in November 2023. It aimed to gather feedback on travel challenges in the community. The responses will help the council prioritize improvements when funding is available.
So, what did people say? A whopping 56% of responses highlighted issues with vehicles and parking. Other concerns included walking accessibility, cycling, and the overall street environment.
Residents pointed out problems like inconsiderate parking, congestion, and unsafe cycle lanes. They also mentioned narrow footpaths and difficulties crossing roads, which can be pretty frustrating.
In response, the council has some proposals lined up. For Armley, they’re looking to improve cycle lane connectivity and make walking links better between key areas.
In Bramley & Stanningley, they want to enhance access to the shopping center and even add a zebra crossing for safer school access. Plus, they’re reviewing parking management near schools.
Kirkstall isn’t left out either. They’re planning to improve safety and access at local parks and make pedestrian crossings better at busy junctions.
During the consultation, residents could pinpoint issues on maps and suggest their own. However, it’s worth noting that none of these proposals are funded yet. The council is now on the hunt for funding to make these improvements happen.
