A 12-year-old British boy has died in a car crash in Belgium, leaving five family members injured, including his twin brother
Veurne: A British schoolboy lost his life in a tragic car accident that also injured five of his family members. It’s just heartbreaking.
The 12-year-old, who went to Menorah Grammar School in Edgware, was in a BMW X5 when it flipped over on the E40 motorway in West Flanders. This happened around 1am on Thursday. Can you imagine the shock?
His parents and three siblings were hurt but thankfully their injuries aren’t life-threatening. They’re all getting treatment in the hospital. It’s so sad, especially since the boy was about to celebrate his bar mitzvah with his twin brother.
There was a letter sent out by the headteacher to the school community, letting everyone know about the tragedy. It reassured parents to talk to their kids about the strong feelings they might have after losing a friend.
Haim Weingarten from ZAKA, a disaster response team, called the accident “devastating.” The boy had just had an important ceremony in Israel, marking a big moment in his faith.
Belgian police learned about the crash thanks to the BMW’s emergency alert system. They think the car might have aquaplaned due to the wet conditions. The prosecutor’s office mentioned that bad weather and speed could have played a role in the accident.
The family was reportedly on their way back from Antwerp when the crash happened near Veurne. The exit road was closed for a while as the authorities worked to clear the scene.
Local police reported that there were six people in the car. Sadly, the 12-year-old boy was thrown from the vehicle and died from his injuries. It’s just so tragic.
