A beloved young rugby player was found dead in his bed just a day after feeling unwell following a match injury
Tupholme: It’s such a heartbreaking story. A 15-year-old rugby player named Sam Staple was found dead in his bed, and it’s just so tragic. He had been feeling unwell after grazing his leg during a match the day before.
The inquest into his death started recently, and it’s been tough for everyone who knew him. Sam was described as an “incredibly special” kid, and it’s clear he made a big impact on those around him.
On the day he passed, he had been sick and stayed home from school. His grandma checked on him later, and that’s when they discovered he wasn’t breathing. Paramedics were called, but sadly, it was too late.
After a post-mortem, it was found that he had high levels of medication in his system. The inquest is set to continue in March 2025, so there’s still a lot to uncover.
Rugby clubs have been paying tribute to Sam, including the Lincoln Rugby Club, which shared a heartfelt message about how much he will be missed. They remembered him as a funny and lively character who loved the game.
In honor of Sam, his family and the Lincoln RFC have started The Sam Staple Memorial Fund. This fund aims to help young players in the area pursue their rugby dreams. So far, they’ve raised over £5,500, which is pretty amazing.
It’s a tough time for everyone, but it’s heartwarming to see the rugby community come together to support Sam’s family and keep his memory alive.
