Newport: A family is heartbroken after losing their beloved 26-year-old daughter, Rhiannon Morgan, on New Year’s Eve 2024. Her cancer diagnosis came as a shock after a scan for a miscarriage in November 2023.

Rhiannon’s mom, Sarah, opened up about her daughter’s struggles in an interview. She shared how Rhiannon had always dreamed of being a mom. After her miscarriage, doctors found cancer between her hips and pelvis during a follow-up scan.

Before the diagnosis, Rhiannon only had some leg pain, which was dismissed as sciatica. She kept pushing through, not knowing the severity of her condition.

Sarah recalled how devastated Rhiannon was. She was great with kids and had even named her lost baby Rowan. Rhiannon was about 10 weeks along when she miscarried.

After the cancer was discovered, Rhiannon was sent to Birmingham for a biopsy, where they confirmed it was ewing sarcoma, a rare bone cancer mostly affecting young people.

She started chemotherapy and even had proton beam therapy in London. Sadly, she faced numerous health issues, including sepsis and infections, leading to frequent hospital visits.

Doctors eventually told her that the only option left was to remove her pelvis and hips, but she was too weak for that surgery.

Just weeks before her passing, Rhiannon learned her cancer was untreatable. She had told her doctor she didn’t want to know too much about her condition because she was terrified of dying.

Rhiannon was the oldest sibling, adored by her younger brother and sister. She loved her four cats and was a big fan of Manchester United and Welsh rugby. For her funeral, the family plans to ask attendees to wear team jerseys.

Sarah shared how close she was with Rhiannon, saying they used to FaceTime daily. Now, she misses those calls deeply. Rhiannon loved reading and doing puzzles, and Sarah has been touched by the stories and memories shared by her friends since her passing.

To honor Rhiannon, Sarah has started a fundraiser to give her the send-off she deserves. She hopes any leftover funds will go to a cancer charity to help other families facing similar challenges.

Every little bit helps, and Sarah appreciates any donations made in Rhiannon’s memory.
