A devastating crash on New Year’s Day in Preston leaves two boys dead and a girl fighting for her life, with several others injured.
Preston: It was a really tragic start to the year. Two boys, just 16 and 18, lost their lives in a horrific crash. A 16-year-old girl is now fighting for her life, and five others were hurt.
The boys who died were identified as William Herbert from Howden and Olly Mitchell from Ellerton. Such young lives cut short is just heartbreaking.
The accident happened around 1:20 AM when a grey Volkswagen Golf collided with a black Vauxhall Grandland. Emergency services rushed to the scene, but sadly, William died right there, and Olly later passed away in the hospital.
Two other passengers, including a girl who’s in critical but stable condition, and a 17-year-old boy who’s serious but stable, are still being treated. A 62-year-old man and a 34-year-old woman from the other car also needed hospital care, but thankfully, their injuries aren’t life-threatening.
The driver of the Volkswagen, a 17-year-old boy, was arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving. He’s been released on bail while the investigation continues.
Police are asking anyone who might have seen the crash or has dashcam footage to come forward. It’s a tough time for the families, and they’re asking for privacy as they deal with this tragedy.
