Two lorries collided with a bridge in Erdington, causing train cancellations and delays on the Cross City line this morning and afternoon
Erdington: This morning, two lorries crashed into a bridge on Summer Road. The first incident happened early, and then another one occurred later in the day.
These crashes blocked the Cross City train line between Birmingham New Street and Lichfield Trent Valley. It’s been a bit of a mess for commuters.
Birmingham New Street tweeted around lunchtime, saying they were sorry for the inconvenience. They mentioned that the same bridge had been hit again.
They promised to check the bridge quickly so trains could get moving again. They also reminded drivers to be aware of their vehicle’s height to prevent these kinds of accidents.
West Midlands Railway also chimed in, saying the line was blocked due to the lorry hitting the bridge. They warned that trains might be cancelled or delayed.
Later, they confirmed that the Cross City North was blocked again after the second collision. Erdington Police advised drivers to find different routes since the road was also blocked.
The Cross-City Line connects Redditch and Bromsgrove in Worcestershire to Lichfield in Staffordshire, passing through Birmingham New Street. It’s a vital link for many commuters.
Services on this line are run by West Midlands Railway, and it looks like they have their work cut out for them today.
