Transport Scotland is hosting events to discuss a 10mph speed limit change for cars while increasing it for goods vehicles
They’re looking for feedback on this idea, which is part of a bigger review to make our roads safer. The current limit on single carriageways for cars is 60mph, and they want to drop it to 50mph. But for heavy goods vehicles, they’re thinking of bumping the limit up by 10mph.
That means trucks could go from 40mph to 50mph on single carriageways and from 50mph to 60mph on dual carriageways. The online consultation has been running since late November and has already gotten over 8,700 responses. Now, they’re adding in-person events across Scotland in January and February.
Transport Secretary Fiona Hyslop mentioned that road safety is a big deal for the Scottish Government. They’re aiming to make Scotland’s roads the safest by 2030. She’s grateful for all the feedback so far and hopes more folks will join the upcoming sessions to share their thoughts.
The events in the Highlands are set for various dates in January and February, including stops in Pitlochry, Ullapool, Elgin, and Inverness. It’s a great chance to learn more and voice your opinion!
