The community mourns the loss of PC Rosie Prior, who died tragically while assisting at a crash scene in North Yorkshire
Bagby: It’s a tough day for the police force after PC Rosie Prior was killed by a lorry while helping out at a crash site. She was just trying to assist some motorists involved in a previous accident when tragedy struck.
Rosie was standing by the Audi when the HGV hit them. Sadly, both she and the driver of the Audi, Ryan Welford, lost their lives right there. A teenage boy from the Audi is in the hospital but is stable, thank goodness.
Her family shared a touching tribute, calling her a loving mum and sister who will be missed deeply. Chief Constable Tim Forber expressed his sorrow, confirming the heartbreaking news and emphasizing how tragic this situation is for everyone involved.
He mentioned that they’re doing everything possible to support Rosie’s family and Ryan’s family too. It’s just a really tough time, and they’re asking for privacy for both families as they grieve.
The incident happened around 9 am, and the area was closed off for quite a while until everything was cleared up later in the evening. Ryan’s family also shared their grief, saying he was a hardworking and loving man who will be missed by many.
As for the HGV driver, a 65-year-old from Berwick-upon-Tweed, he’s been arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving but has been released while the investigation continues. Rosie had only joined the North Yorkshire Police in May 2022, and it’s just so tragic.
