Oswaldtwistle: Colin Banyard was a real gem in the community. He recently passed away peacefully at 99, and folks are sharing their love for him. He was known for fixing up war vehicles and organizing dance nights with his late wife, Edna.

Colin and Edna were quite the duo. They loved ballroom dancing and hosted over 100 dance events at local spots like the community center and Stanhill Methodist Church. Their son Ian shared how they even took their dance parties to Blackpool and Morecambe.

Colin was a dedicated member of Stanhill Methodist Church, where he and Edna tied the knot back in 1951. They raised funds for the church through their dance events, showing just how much they cared about their community.

His love for dancing started when he was just 14. He and Edna met at the Accrington Conservative Club, and they were inseparable ever since. They even took their dance CDs on holiday to Spain and Malta, where a hotel once offered them a gig to host dance nights!

Born in Oswaldtwistle, Colin grew up on Trinity Street and later moved to Stanhill. After serving in the army, he worked as a motor mechanic and repaired vehicles from World War II, including army trucks and motorcycles.

Colin was also a proud pigeon fancier, racing homing pigeons across England. He led the Blackburn and Oswaldtwistle Homing Societies for years and won many awards. His passion for pigeons came from his dad, who also loved the hobby.

He leaves behind a loving family, including his children and grandchildren, who will always remember him for his kindness and zest for life.
