Troon RNLI shares highlights from a busy 2024, including incidents and fundraising efforts, while welcoming new staff members for the upcoming year
They teamed up with police, ambulance services, fire crews, and the Coastguard helicopter. It’s all about working together to keep everyone safe out there.
On top of that, the lifeboat station had a successful year with fundraising. They’ve seen some changes in their team too. A spokesperson expressed gratitude to everyone who contributed, whether through donations, raffle prizes, or just visiting the station.
Every little bit helps them maintain their lifesaving service, which is crucial for saving lives at sea.
There were some staff changes in 2024. Evan Gallacher, the full-time mechanic, moved on after six years. He’s now at the RNLI’s divisional base in Perth. Graeme Hendren, who has been volunteering for five years, stepped into the mechanic role.
He’s excited to work alongside the new Coxswain, Josh Middleton. Josh joined the RNLI in Troon earlier this year after a military career and has been busy training on the all-weather lifeboat.
The fundraising team had a blast with events like Quiz and Chips and the RNLI Christmas Fayre. Unfortunately, their RNLI Shop on Ayr Street closed this year, but retail volunteers will still be selling RNLI goodies at local events next year.
As 2024 wraps up, they want to wish all their volunteers, friends, and supporters the best for the upcoming year and look forward to their continued support in 2025.
