Trump criticizes Judge Merchan’s decision to uphold his conviction in the hush money case, calling it illegal and biased
New York: So, Trump is really going off about this hush money case. After the judge, Juan Merchan, decided not to toss out his conviction, Trump called the ruling “completely illegal” and “psychotic.”
His lawyers tried to convince the judge to dismiss the case, claiming it was tainted by evidence that should be protected under presidential immunity. But Merchan wasn’t having it. He said the evidence about Trump’s shady business records had nothing to do with his presidential duties.
Merchan pointed out that the evidence against Trump was pretty overwhelming. Trump, however, didn’t hold back. He slammed the judge as “corrupt” and said he disrespected the Supreme Court’s decision on immunity.
On Truth Social, Trump called the case a “Rigged Hoax” and claimed Merchan’s opinion was unlawful and a threat to the presidency. He even said he’s the only political opponent in history who can’t defend himself.
Trump also took shots at special counsel Jack Smith, saying Merchan was worse. He’s really not holding back on the insults. A jury found him guilty of falsifying business records related to payments made to silence Stormy Daniels, which could have hurt his 2016 campaign.
Throughout the trial, Trump has been lashing out at everyone involved, including the judge and prosecutors. Last week, the prosecutors reminded the judge about Trump’s false claims and said his behavior shouldn’t lead to a dismissal of his convictions.
They argued that Trump’s pattern of harassment and intimidation should be considered when deciding whether to keep his conviction intact. The judge is expected to make another ruling soon, especially since Trump is about to be president again.
