Trump insists he did nothing wrong after a judge’s light sentence in his hush-money case
New York: So, Trump was in court again, and he really let loose about how he feels. He called it a ‘very terrible experience’ right before the judge decided he wouldn’t face any jail time or fines. Can you believe that?
Judge Juan Merchan gave him an unconditional discharge after a jury found him guilty of 34 counts of falsifying business records. Basically, he walked away without any real consequences.
Trump was adamant about his innocence, saying, “I did nothing wrong.” He even mentioned that people he knows, who aren’t exactly his pals, think the case shouldn’t have happened at all.
He went on about how it’s all a political witch hunt aimed at ruining his reputation. He really feels like he’s been treated unfairly, and he wanted everyone to know it.
Outside the court, a Trump flag was waving, showing that his supporters are still backing him. It’s wild to think he’s facing felony convictions but won’t serve any time.
Earlier this week, the Supreme Court decided not to step in and stop his sentencing. Prosecutors were hoping the court would intervene to protect the presidency and the government’s operations.
Justice Sonia Sotomayor said Trump’s arguments could be sorted out through the usual appeal process. She noted that the impact of the sentencing on his duties as president-elect was pretty minimal.
Some justices wanted to help Trump out, but in the end, he got off pretty easy.
