Cetinje: It’s just heartbreaking what happened in Montenegro. Twelve people lost their lives, including two kids, and four others are seriously hurt. The whole thing kicked off in a restaurant and ended with the shooter taking his own life.

The guy, Aleksandar Martinović, was 45. After the police cornered him near his home, he shot himself. The interior minister, Danilo Šaranović, said he didn’t die right away but later on the way to the hospital.

This all started around 5:30 PM on Wednesday in a village called Bajice, close to Cetinje. The public prosecutor, Andrijana Nastic, confirmed that the victims were shot at five different spots, with the first four at the restaurant.

Four people are still in the hospital, and three of them are in critical condition. The government has declared three days of mourning for the victims. It’s just so tragic.

Interestingly, police believe this wasn’t linked to organized crime. Šaranović mentioned that the bar owner, his kids, and even some of the shooter’s family were among those killed. It’s just so senseless.

Apparently, Martinović had been drinking heavily on New Year’s Day at the bar before he went home, grabbed a gun, and came back to shoot. He had a history of violent behavior and was known for being erratic.

The president of Montenegro, Jakov Milatović, expressed his shock over the incident, saying it’s a sad time instead of a joyful holiday. The prime minister, Milojko Spajić, mentioned there was a brawl before the shooting and called it a “terrible tragedy.”

Montenegro has a population of just over 600,000, and while mass shootings are rare, the country has a strong gun culture. It’s a tough situation, especially considering the history of violence in the region.
