A tragic incident in Michigan leads to the rescue of two children and the arrest of three suspects following a deadly shooting
Northfield Township: So, there was this really awful situation in Michigan where two people were shot and killed, and two kids were taken from their home. It all went down on a Wednesday evening when the police got a 911 call about the shooting.
When they arrived, they found Jennifer Lyn Bernhard, 48, and Stevie Ray Smith, 74, dead. There was also a 52-year-old who got shot but survived and is now in stable condition. They haven’t released that person’s name yet.
After the shooting, the two kids, ages seven and four, were reported missing. Thankfully, the police found them safe later on and took them to the hospital for a check-up.
Now, the three suspects are in custody and could be facing charges soon. If they get hit with first-degree murder charges and are found guilty, they could be looking at life in prison.
It turns out this whole mess started because of a custody dispute. A local resident, Chuck Linblade, said it was shocking since crime like this isn’t common around there. He mentioned that it’s not something you usually hear about in their area.
As of now, the Washtenaw County Sheriff’s Office hasn’t commented on the situation.
